'Beyond Disruption' - Futuresource LED China Conference, Shenzhen

On the 21st February 2019, worldwide technology market analyst firm Futuresource Consulting hosted its first high-profile LED conference, in partnership with the LED China Shenzhen exhibition.

Senior management and technical experts from leading LED display companies were invited to share their thoughts on the sweeping LED industry trajectory, igniting discussions about market dynamics, competition, technological innovations and different perspectives on forecasting in order to depict a view of the opportunities and challenges across this exciting, dynamic and disruptive landscape.  

Speakers at the conference included Thomas Morel, R&D Director of Custom Solutions, JCDecaux; Chung-Ta Tsai, Marketing Director, Macroblock Inc.; Zechun Liang, Visualization Marketing Manager, Osram; Chris Kee, Executive Director, Christie Digital Systems; Zhuowei Liu, V.P. of International Division, Shenzhen Leyard Opto-Electronic Co., Ltd; Ying Zhang, Director of International Sales Division, Unilumin Group; Ying Sheng, Global Marketing Manager, Absen; and Jon Settingsgard, Product Manager, Daktronics. The conference hall was full and received enthusiastic feedback from the audience.

Xueting (Judy) Wang, Asia Pacific Business Development Manager at Futuresource Consulting hosted the meeting. Keynote speaker Chris Mcintyre-Brown, Associate Director of Professional AV at Futuresource Consulting, opened the conference by sharing the latest insights on the global LED display market.  Mcintyre-Brown, a well-respected and familiar face on the global AV conference circuit shared the latest market insights and highlighted that global LED display sales are expected to continue to grow onto 2022, this is partly due to the lower technological thresholds, comparative to previous years. Furthermore, Futuresource expects a new wave of market entrants and as the competition intensifies, there is a chance of an additional market shifts and battles for ownership and control. In overseas markets, localised operations, branding and after-sales service are increasingly important to drive sales performance.

Anthony Brennan, Market Analyst at Futuresource Consulting was next onto the stage, discussing trends around the ‘hot topic’ of collaboration in the corporate meeting room space. The session assessed the potential for LED as a replacement for projection and LCD technology, whilst also providing the audience with market research from the Futuresource collaboration suite of reports which covers team collaboration displays, wireless presentation solutions and video conferencing solutions.

“As LED displays enter the corporate market, they will make an impact on the existing equipment, such as projectors,” added Brennan. “Indeed, international companies such as Facebook and Coca-Cola have already started to use LED displays in their conference rooms.”

Haihong (Hope Lee) Lee, Senior Market Analyst at Futuresource, went on to host two panel discussions. Speakers in the penultimate panel include Chung-Ta Tsai, Macroblock and Zechun Liang, Osram. They discussed the current state and future trends of the LED technology market and shared their analysis on energy saving, sustainable development, product reliability and product testing. The panel discussion focused on the opportunities and challenges of the local development and overseas expansion of Chinese companies. Ying Zhang, Unilumin, Zhuowei Liu, Leyard and Ying Sheng, Absen shared their views and observations from the perspective of their respective companies, which sparked great interest from the audience.

On a global scale, China is not only a major producer of LED displays, but also an important consumption market.  The development strategies adopted locally and abroad by leading Chinese companies will inevitably affect the global market trend.
