InfoComm China 2019 - Key Trends and Technologies

Professional AV Technology Market Research, Analysis and Commentary

As InfoComm China, Asia Pacific’s largest showcase of professional audio visual (Pro-AV) and collaborative communication solutions opens its doors today, it expects to welcome over 40,000 end users and buyers from around the world. The Pro AV team at Futuresource Consulting is on the ground in Beijing, ready to compare and contrast its industry insights gained from InfoComm USA and Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) with its Eastern equivalent.

So, as the industry waits in anticipation for key announcements from the world’s leading and local brands at InfoComm China, Futuresource Consulting would like to share some of the key trends and technologies that are sweeping across the global Pro AV and collaborative solutions landscape.

At a macro level, Futuresource expects to see more on analytics, big data and AI, reflecting the growing influence of IT on industry solutions. Though not a new topic, there is more clarity in vision and communication across the industry around these topics, with vendors expected to present strategies and product roadmaps that integrate more deeply with these tools.

Spotlight on Front Projection

Modular remote light source projection is expected to be a key talking point at the show. With the recent launches of Digital Projection’s Satellite Modular Laser System (Satellite MLS) and the InfoComm debut of Christie’s Mirage SST, such solutions could be the future for complex multi-channel applications. This includes domes, caves and simulators, as well as open environments where space or noise constraints have previously been a barrier.

Projection onto transparent screens and glass may also be common theme, with Maxell (formerly Hitachi), NEC and DNP being just some of the brands recently demonstrating this solution at InfoComm USA last month. The concept is being targeted at the retail and corporate environments and demonstrates how innovations in projection are opening up new applications and markets.

Flat Panel Trending Upwards

Another key trend and talking point will certainly be the shift towards collaboration within the corporate segment, with most vendors expected to showcase collaboration solutions and some purely focusing on corporate, with signage taking a back seat.

The LCD segment may also see new product launches, as end users explore ways to increase the size of the total wall to 65”, without requiring an increasing number of panels.

Signal Distribution on the Rise

2019 has already been an exceptional year for the AV over IP market. There will certainly be a growing focus on the benefits of IP solutions, with more manufacturers bringing products to market and major vendors demonstrating the flexibility that IP can offer. While this market has enjoyed strong growth over the past 24 months, it has also seen disruptions and difficulties for some vendors. Despite its rapid ascendance, widescale adoption has yet to develop. It will be interesting to see how far the market has progressed in China over the last few years.

Collaboration is Key

As technological advancements continue to allow significant changes to the world of work, the market for collaboration technologies in corporate and education verticals is on the rise. Video conferencing and wireless presentation systems are enjoying high growth rates and continued success. The opportunity is expected to be given significant floor space dedicated to these solutions at InfoComm China.

Audio Rising

It will be interesting to see the demonstrations of the live sound systems vendors. Houses of worship, theatres, performing arts and stadia have all been long-standing opportunities for sound reinforcement, with hospitality and cruise lines have coming into focus as key applications.
