Demand for Blu-ray and DVD players at a worldwide level fell once again in 2016, primarily due to the continued swift growth of streamed video services. Worldwide shipments fell by 21% fall to 39m units, generating $2.8bn in trade revenues.

2016 saw a strong roll-out of UHD Blu-ray Players with focus on N America and W Europe although 2017 is expected to see UHD BD spread beyond these regions.
