Front Projection Market Retreats Again in Q2 2025, Yet Pockets of Growth Signal an Ongoing Opportunity
The worldwide front projector market experienced another sharp decline in Q2 2025, with volumes down 24.5% year-on-year, and value falling 20.5% to $913 million. However, some growth corridors are opening up.
Futuresource Consulting’s latest front projector market report shows that the installation and large venue (I&LV) segment achieved double-digit volume growth, and niche applications such as education, projection mapping and high-end home cinema continue to show resilience. In addition, although total shipment volumes continue to fall, Futuresource expects the overall market value in 2025 to edge ahead of 2024.
“Make no mistake, the projector market is under intense pressure from flat panels, LEDs and shifting buyer behaviour,” says David Thompson, Lead Market Analyst at Futuresource Consulting. “But this story isn’t one of uniform decline. We’re seeing a sector in transition, where mainstream categories are contracting, but niche segments continue to deliver growth. Installation and large venue projectors are bucking the trend, and there’s a clear runway for vendors who focus in on the right markets.”
Projection finds strength in scale and spectacle
The I&LV segment grew by nearly 11% in Q2 by volume, driven by demand for affordable, high-resolution displays in education and by pre-tariff buying in the USA. In EMEA, countries including France and the UK recorded double-digit segment growth, while Saudi Arabia, Turkey and South Africa all saw year-on-year gains. In the Americas, I&LV sales rose by 12.5%.
At the same time, niches like golf simulation, projection mapping and high-end home cinema continue to support demand, underscoring projection’s enduring value in use cases where size, flexibility or spectacle matter the most.
Mainstream segments under mounting pressure
By contrast, mainstream B2B projectors continued to slide, with global volumes falling 26.7%. China dropped 39% to 48,000 units, while the USA was down 15.5% to 43,000 units.
Dedicated home projection also shrank 25.9% in volume, though India posted growth in high-end models, offering a glimpse of resilience in select premium niches. Ultra-mobile projectors suffered the steepest decline, with volumes down 58.8% year-on-year.
Looking ahead to regulation and resilience
While Futuresource forecasts a long-term decline in global projector volumes, the overall market value in 2025 is projected to surpass 2024, underpinned by the high-ticket I&LV segment. Yet the firm notes that risks continue to endure. For example, Europe faces potential disruption if the EU’s exemption on mercury lamps is not renewed beyond 2027, which could wipe lamp-based projectors from the market overnight.
“The future of front projection is narrower, but it’s sharper,” says Thompson. “We’re seeing a shift away from broad corporate adoption and towards specific verticals and geographies where projection still has an edge. Vendors that hone in on those niches and embrace laser, high-brightness and creative form factors will continue to find growth opportunities and financial success.”
