NPP LED Holding Strong as Video Wall Market posts Challenging Year

The tiled Video Wall market experienced a challenging year in 2020. Stay-at-home measures and global lockdowns applied downward pressure to a sector that feeds on footfall, scrubbing 18% off its market value. Yet there were some bright spots on the landscape, along with a healthy outlook for Narrow Pixel Pitch LED (NPP LED) as the market moves forward, according to a new report from Futuresource Consulting.

“It’s clear that this market has been feeling the squeeze,” says Matthew Rubin, Senior Market Analyst, Futuresource Consulting. “Demand fell away and installation opportunities evaporated last year, as consumer behaviour and corporate interactions were both recalibrated in the wake of COVID-19. However, the fallout from last year has shone a light on the future of Video Wall. And it has underlined the fact that NPP LED is in its ascendancy.”

Technology Highs and Lows

While LCD and Rear Projection Cube (RPC) both saw major double-digit decline, NPP LED held onto most of its worth, posting a fall of just 1% in terms of value.  And NPP LED’s future outlook remains healthy, with an impressive 29% CAGR growth rate from 2020 to 2025.

“Public sector and control room were the success stories for NPP LED last year,” says Rubin, “achieving nearly $1.6 billion in value across the two verticals combined. The technology is particularly strong in control room, and has been successful in slowly pushing RPC from this valuable market. NPP now accounts for two out of every three dollars spent in the vertical.”

The Future of Video Wall

Improvements in manufacturing processes, like mass transfer technology, combined with the developmental roadmap for MicroLED puts NPP LED front and centre in the race to the top. Yet, as much of this technology remains at a nascent stage, the path to growth may not all be plain sailing.

“There is still life beyond NPP LED,” says Rubin. “The outlook for LCD is positive too. And by the end of the forecast period, we expect total Video Wall market value to reach $16.4 billion. That’s nearly £10 billion more than 2020.”
