Concerning 1:1 device adoption, schools in the UK remain hesitant to adopt such a program, with nearly three quarters of respondents having no plans for any future implementation, with budget restrictions cited as the key barrier by the majority of schools. What is perhaps more concerning is that the second barrier after budget limitations, is that adopting such a programme results in no improvement in learning, as far as UK schools are concerned.
Regarding device use case by students, tablets are the leading device type used by younger students in grades K-5. As students move into the older grade brackets (6-12), notebooks, Chromebooks and desktop PCs become the more dominant devices used, with 9-12 students also likely to see MacBook usage, particularly in private schools. As a result of this, average costs unsurprisingly experience a rise as students get older, with the K-5 grade bracket likely to see average costs sitting between €200-299, reflecting high tablet usage. Students in the upper grades, however, see average costs likely to sit between €400-499 per device, as usage shifts to notebooks and Chromebooks.
