The Indian Video Entertainment market has seen a robust recovery, in 2022 surpassing the level of 2019. The Pay-TV segment remains the backbone but is losing its share. While the SVoD segment continues to be the main driver of growth, the Indian market is now moving towards hybrid models, with a very high proportion of ad-supported services or tiers.
The year was exceptionally successful for the theatrical segment as well, with revenues almost reaching 2019. However, the result is mostly slate driven, as admissions still lag behind. With the rise of South Indian cinema, theatrical will continue to grow and drive total market growth together with SVoD. Transactional, while a very small part of the market, has seen double-digit growth thanks to the launching of new players.
